The design and construction of a complete new music recording studio facility is a rare opportunity at the beginning of the 21st Century. SMEJ’s commitment to create this project demanded the seamless integration of a highly complex and technical apparatus into a comfortable and creative environment. The equipment requirements, the space acoustics, the ergonomic demands of the users, and the visual and spatial impact of the architecture had to be perfectly balanced to form a workspace conductive to the creative process of the artists. The spaces are designed to provide an environment that doesn’t distract from making music, but instead enhances and supports the various phases of artistic creation and production. The studios reflect the state-of-the-art of today’s world class recording facilities. Space allow current high-end technology to be used to its fullest potential, from recording to mixing and mastering, and take into account future developments. Facilities for New Media production in multi-media formats complete the program and allow a view to the future of media production.

Generous, ergonomically designed control rooms provide accurate monitoring conditions. Their layout allows for efficient operation and comfortable accommodations. Loudspeakers in all rooms are custom-designed for this project. The large studio space with high ceilings can be divided up with isolation booths, and allow for multiple recording configurations and sonic environments. Materials and colors in the studio areas follow a common theme, and the natural use of materials achieves a sense of classy timelessness. Using a modern language, the feeling of the spaces nonetheless is inviting and comfortable. The technical equipment and acoustics are incorporated into forms that express the complexity of the program, but mediate it with clean and simple detailing.

TTMF-2

STRAUSS ELEKTROAKUSTIK GMBH, Bern - Switzerland 03/16/2001
Jurgen Strauss

The midfield studio monitor TTMF-2 is a two-way point-source loudspeaker. Its additional and switchable super tweeter offers the opportunity to master SACD’s in the frequency range above 22kHz. The low end of the speaker includes the specially-developed SE STRAUSS ELEKTROACOUSTIK GMBH, a unique bass-reflex tuning which offers high acoustic-mechanical stability and high efficiency. A very detailed passive equalization of the horn and compression-driver combination emphasizes the outstanding quality of the SONY SUP-T11 compression driver. The passive filter network is essentially a second-order Linkwiz-Riley. It was customized to maximize the consistency of sound dispersion at all points within the time domain. I hope you enjoy working with the TTMF-2.
